Kürtőskalács are traditional Hungarian sweet pastries shaped like hollow cylinders. Originally from Transylvania, they are also known as “chimney cakes” because their shape resembles a small chimney.
The dough is wrapped around a cylindrical mold, brushed with butter, coated in sugar, and baked until golden and caramelized. Once baked, they are often rolled in cinnamon sugar, giving them a crispy, sweet, and aromatic crust with a soft interior.
They can be enjoyed plain or filled with creams such as pastry cream or hazelnut spread.
