How to Propagate Roses from Cuttings: A Simple Guide
✂️ What You’ll Need:
Healthy rose stem (cutting)
Sharp knife or pruners
Rooting hormone (optional but helpful)
Small pot or planting area
Well-draining soil or potting mix
Plastic bag or bottle (for humidity)
Water
🌱 Step-by-Step Guide:
1. Choose Your Cutting
Pick a healthy stem from a rose bush (about 6–8 inches long) that has recently bloomed. It should be green but firm — not too soft or woody.
2. Trim the Cutting
Cut just below a node (where the leaf meets the stem).
Remove any flowers or buds.
Keep 2–3 leaf sets at the top and remove the rest.
3. Optional: Use Rooting Hormone
Dip the bottom end of the cutting into rooting hormone to boost root development.
4. Plant the Cutting
Fill a pot with moist potting mix or plant directly in the garden.
Make a hole and gently insert the cutting about halfway in.
Firm the soil around it.
